Memorial Tree Lighting

The Smyrna/Clayton July 4th Association sponsors an annual “Memorial Tree Lighting” and ceremony.  Date to be determined.   This tradition began in 1994.  The ceremony is held at the Clayton Fire Co., No. 1, Inc.

Citizen’s in the community may purchase bulbs “in honor of” or “in memory of” a loved one(s) for $5.00 per name or 3 for $10.00.

The Citizen’s Hose Company band kicks off the ceremony with holiday music.  Visual presentation of the names of purchased bulbs begins at 6:00pm in the Clayton Fire Company hall along with holiday shows by Sunnyside Elementary School and Providence Creek Academy.  Following the reading of names, the Christmas Tree on the corner of Main Street and N. Bassett Street is lit.

This is an annual fund raiser for the organization to help offset the cost of the fireworks display held each year on the 4th of July.

Christmas Parade

The Smyrna/Clayton July 4th Association sponsors an annual Christmas Parade in Clayton, Delaware.  December 2011 was the first year we had lighted parade.  It was magnificent.  This parade is growing in size as it is less than 5 years old in tradition.

Date for 2014 parade to be determined, held at 5 p.m. in Clayton.  The parade begins at Clayton Elementary School on School Lane and proceeds down Main Street, turning left onto Reed Street, ending at Metal Masters/Eagle Group parking lot.

We have bands, fire companies, car groups, dignitaries, horses, floats, wagons and much more participating.

Each year hope to get bigger and better.  Anyone interested in participating in the parade should contact:
